When you first start karate, focusing on the basic techniques is super important. If you learn them really well, it will help a lot when you start learning harder skills later on. Things like stances, punches, blocks, and kicks are what you need to practice a TON at the beginning. Here are some things I think are really important to work on when you're new to karate:

Good Stances Make Everything Easier
Stances are like the most important part, because all the other stuff builds on them. Spend time with your teacher practicing horse stance, forward stance, and back stance until you have them perfect. Really pay attention to how your legs, back, and middle should feel.
Using things like balance cushions can show you if your stance needs work. You can also try moving between stances while holding them, to get used to switching how you stand. Good stances will help you do harder techniques later way easier.
Shadow Boxing Is Great For Punching Practice
Once you learn basic punches like jabs, crosses, and hooks, shadow boxing is an awesome way to practice them a ton. Shadow boxing lets you punch like you would against someone, without a partner. Focus on using your middle muscles to punch super clear and hard, instead of just swinging your arms around. Try shadow boxing for 5 minutes after each class - it will really help you learn.
Shadowboxing Helps You Get Better at Punching
Once you learn the basic punches like the jab, cross, and hook, spend time shadowboxing to practice them over and over. When you shadowbox by yourself, you can throw punches without a partner. This lets you practice punching something like a target, but safely. Focus on throwing each punch clearly and strongly from your core instead of just swinging your arms. Try shadowboxing for 5 minutes after every workout to keep improving your punching skills.

Practicing Punches with Mitts from a Friend Makes Them Sharper
To make practice feel more real and get tips on your form, ask a friend to hold mitts while you punch. Take turns spending 10-15 minutes each time practicing punches. Work on punching accurately, fast and hard. Your friend can also tell you ways to punch better between rounds. Keep practicing with mitts and your punches will get sharper!
Blocks Help Protect You in a Fight
Knowing basic blocks like rising, outside and inside is very important for any martial art. Spend just as much time perfecting your form with these blocks as you do on punches. Blocking pads provide padding and targets so you can practice blocks safely and get tips to improve.
Start Kicks Carefully
Getting really good at kicks takes a lot of practice, but it's worth it. First focus on roundhouse, side, and front push kicks. Most important, protect your legs until they can handle it. Buy padded shin guards made for karate to prevent bruises.
Keep practicing the basics regularly and you'll get better at karate.
